THE LOGITECH HARMONY ONE REMOTE CONTROL REVIEW
The Logitech Harmony One is by far one of the best remote controls available. The company Logitech has built a reputable name for itself with their many remote controls. Logitech has definitely created a great fan base and with the Harmony One that fan base should become bigger by leaps and bounds.
First off the design of the Harmony One is ergonomically and cosmetically wonderful. Logitech made it sleek to fit comfortably in your hand, which of course is very important. The layout of the buttons has been thought out thoroughly, allowing the user to navigate around the remote by the feel of the different sizes of the buttons. Aside from the button layout, the designers of the Harmony One divided the remote into five different zones of operation, which are separated by silver line dividers.
The Harmony One’s feel is a feel of high-quality. The exterior isn’t cheap plastic that will break apart if it falls from a five foot drop. And with a price tag around $250 I would expect it to be highly durable. The LCD screen’s quality is also topnotch. It’s a touch screen and yes it is very responsive.
Another great thing that makes this remote one of the best available is that it comes with a docking station. It’s for charging the rechargeable lithium battery, which is also included. To charge the battery you simply place the remote in its cradle and “viola” the charging begins. It’s so simple and effective you will never need to buy batteries.
The only gripe (and it’s small one) that I have is that there is no RF feature with this remote. So if you have a need to control components through a wall or door, this isn’t the remote that will allow that to happen. But since people usually control components in the same room that they’re in I guess this wouldn’t be a problem.
If you have a complicated system using the remote’s IR can have a short delay in some of your components. RF is a better technology when dealing with complicated systems. This is not a knock to the Harmony One’s IR. The IR is in fact very strong. The remote doesn’t have to be pointed directly at the component to control it. The only major flaw is that IR cannot work if the equipment is hidden. But other than that, IR is just as good as RF and in some cases even better.
Considering the quality of the Harmony One and its durability and ease of use, the $250 cost may be expensive but Logitech took care of business with this one. It’s a sure buy if you’re in the market for a great remote and of course can flip the bill.
